A New Day
A New Day | Brad Meltzer
2 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
This big-hearted story of kindnessreminiscent of The Day the Crayons Quitis written by the bestselling author of Ordinary People Change the World and illustrated by the Caldecott Medal-winning creator of Beekle. Sunday quit, just like that. She said she was tired of being a day. And so the other days of the week had no choice but to advertise: "WANTED: A NEW DAY. Must be relaxing, tranquil, and replenishing. Serious inquires only." Soon lots of hopefuls arrived with their suggestions, such as Funday, Bunday, Acrobaturday, SuperheroDay, and even MonstersWhoResembleJellyfishDay! Things quickly got out of hand . . . until one more candidate showed up: a little girl with a thank-you gift for Sunday. The girl suggested simply a nice day--a day to be kind. And her gratitude made a calendar's worth of difference to Sunday, who decided she didn't need to quit after all. When we appreciate each other a little bit more, all the days of the week can be brand-new days where everything is possible.

Sunday... is tired... and she'd really like to spend her time a little differently. So, she quits, leaving the other days scrambling to audition for a new replacement.

Santat's illustrations were fun, colorful, and vibrant lending a true delight to Meltzer's story of making the most of our days.

Yesterday I also read three other picture books and I'll share a little more about them in comments 😊⬇️

Librariana Danbi is starting her first day of school in America and she's a little nervous. She can't understand the teacher or her classmates' games. But when it's time for lunch, the beautiful food her momma has lovingly packed will open up a possibility to share something new and find joy in the differences in 4y
Librariana The above has lovely, soft illustrations and would be ideal to share with preschool readers 😊 4y
Librariana Shanti is trying to balance so very much... her culture's beautiful traditions and her American peers' fun new activities. Back and forth she goes between Mama's delicious cooking and her friends going trick-or-treating... watching Bollywood movies at home and Hollywood ones with friends. Slowly, Shanti is finding and learning that 4y

Librariana For the above, the illustrator's animation-style characters do a beautiful job of expressing so many emotions! 4y
Librariana Finally, Richard Ho's story is a love letter to the United States Postal Service and a quick behind the scenes look at how everything functions in that world. But sometimes, what we carefully package and send can get lost! In this quick yet heartwarming story, we follow the journey of the titular package, from mishap to opportunity in 4y
Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 Love reading Brad Meltzer. 4y

Peddler410 I heard the illustrator read and speak about this one. I‘m liking it, but if I‘m being honest the character illustrations scream Inside Out to me. (edited) 4y
LibrarianRyan @Peddler410 I thought that the same thing the first time I saw it. 4y
