Told as part author's memoir, interviews, first-hand accounts, Salvador's unfinished bio, and articles, it DOES give some sense of place to the Philippines, but the author Syjuco sounds like he comes from money & prestige, so the sense of place is as it relates to the the influential, "do you know who my father is?" crowd. The story was a miss for me as it's less about the life and death of Crispin Salvador, and more about Miguel Syjuco, ⬇️
