Testosterone: An Unauthorized Biography | Rebecca M. Jordan-Young, Katrina Karkazis
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Testosterone is neither the biological essence of manliness nor even the “male sex hormone.” It doesn’t predict competitiveness or aggressiveness, strength or sex drive. Rebecca Jordan-Young and Katrina Karkazis pry testosterone loose from more than a century of misconceptions that undermine science while making social fables seem scientific.

Not even 6 minutes in and I don‘t think I can continue! The Intro is based largely around a This American Life episode about testosterone that was just so, so bad. I love that show usually but that one was a gut punch.

I‘d rather find something enjoyable to listen to for now 😅

Next audiobook. Thought I would try to learn more about this thing I‘m injecting every week since most doctors seem to have VERY FEW answers for me. I‘m not sure if it‘s going to talk about trans people much or not though, we‘ll see.

LiteraryinPA I hope it ends up being a useful resource for you! 4y

good primer on problems in scientific studies that relate to gender and sex, authors are very good at tying the content to larger issues of epistemology and how they intersect with reality-making/meaning-making in science.
