Loya is twenty-five: solitary, sincere, with restless stirrings in her heart. In an uncharacteristic move, she sets off on an unexpected journey, away from her mother, Rukmini, and her home in Bengaluru, to distant misty Assam. she comes looking for her beloved Asian elephant, Elephas maximus, but also seeks someone else- her grandfather, Torun Ram Goswami, someone she has never met before. She arrives at the Yellow House on the banks of Brahmaputra, where Torun lives, not knowing that her life is about to change.

Pickpick

Loya, 25, finds herself on the steps of her grandfather‘s Yellow House for the first time in her life. Her mother, Rukmini, was banished from the family decades earlier having married someone darker, outside their caste, outside their state. Will her grandfather, Torun Ram Goswami be able to heal his family. This was a great book of family and belonging as well as a love letter to the state of Assam, India and its beautiful ecosystem and rich 👇🏼

Reggie history. My only gripe is that I could have done with a couple hundred pages more. Barua, cut me off at a mere 185 pages. A very nice pick. (edited) 4y
BiblioLitten Reggie, have you read 4y
Reggie @BiblioLitten I have not but I just stacked it from your post about it being one of your favorites of all time. That good? 4y
BiblioLitten @Reggie I read it long back and I loved it. The ecosystem, and Assam in the book you mentioned reminded me of that. I love Amitav Ghosh‘s writing. I hope you like it too.😊 4y
