I‘m so impressed with how full and real this world feels! You have a huge cast of fully developed characters with their own backstories, motivations, and secrets. In addition to the visuals you get background noise (extensive dialogue in made up languages written in invented characters, onomatopoetic sound effects…) The world is populated with faces you don‘t know, who are only around for a scene or maybe just a panel, but they‘re not landscape,⬇️

IndoorDame the NPCs have dialogue wherever it seems natural. Not every scene directly advances the plot. In book 5 lots of time is still devoted to world building and character development. At this point in a series I‘m often getting fatigued and loosing interest, but I can‘t wait to continue this one just to spend more time in this world. 2y

It‘s amazing how ingrained heteronormativity is in our culture! As a member of the queer community I‘ve really been enjoying the diversity in this series. And I never stopped to think twice about the fact that this is a world where gods, humans and animals can all interbreed, but this panel genuinely surprised me. So now I have to put the book down and take some time to think through what my surprise implies. #LGBTQ

I finished off the #AwesomeAugust readathon yesterday with this Hugo Best Graphic Story nominee. Monstress is an amazing series, with gorgeous artwork and a wonderfully complex world. #hugo2021 #hugoawards

It was a good readathon for me, with 5 books finished. Thanks so much @Andrew65 for hosting!

The story continues and if you have read the other volumes, you will enjoy this one too.

The was is starting and we‘re following Maika both in the present and 6 yrs back. We also follow the other characters who is a part of this war.

I continue to enjoy this series. Stunning art as usual in this one. It has a dark, brutal storyline and keeps me rapt.
