Between a pick and so-so. Loved the time period and the main character‘s motivations and work ethic. I discovered halfway through the book that this is the 2nd in a three book series, but each book has a different main character. While I enjoyed the romance, it felt like there was too easy of a resolution, and the development would have worked better had the book been written in chronological order instead of with flashbacks to previous events.

I'm mighty glad I chose this as my February book. Robson concerns herself with the mechanics of post-WWI life: the social programs (or lack thereof) to help returning soldiers, women's new-won (and limited) suffrage, class divisions, and new moral standards. It's very much a How Stuff Works book, and I ate it right up.

It's probably not a great choice for plot-oriented readers, though, and the romantic component is slight despite the jacket copy.

It was cold and kinda rainy, so I made the terrible mistake of getting a French Vanilla on the way home. It was so sweet I felt ill afterwards, and I didn't even win anything off the cup.

It was warm in Tim Horton's, though, and I got to read another couple chapters of AFTER THE WAR IS OVER.

I took a weirdly plush bus to the fancy library where the return slot checks the books back in, then ate Coco Cafe's famous purple sushi while I read some more of AFTER THE WAR IS OVER. They put blackberries in the rice! Both their salmon and tuna bakudan were tasty, and I think their miso soup is the best I've had out here.

I almost never buy brand new books, so this year I plan to buy (and immediately read) one per month, from an actual bookstore, with an emphasis on women and NB writers I haven't heard much about.

I procrastinated on February's pick because there's only one new bookstore in this city--a modest-sized Coles--but yesterday I took the plunge and went with this one after I found it tucked away on a high shelf. I'm now 70 pages in and I love it. Yay!

This book was just as lovely as the first one! Great easy read! Going to jump into the third one either today or tomorrow! These books make a girl swoon! Loved it!!

I enjoyed reading this book, set in the UK after WWI. The main character was a strong female, most of the time.
