Poems about the magical and messy experience of being a woman, wife, and mother.

Fantastic! This slim volume of poems was so good, I plan to buy my own copy. I listened on #audio, read by the poet. At times raw, lyrical, brash, and funny, it made me think about the roles I play as a woman and the boxes that society puts us in. Highly recommend! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #poetry
It‘s possible I‘ve been feeling a bit vulnerable lately, but wow…these poems really packed a punch. [spellcheck originally changed the wording to read that it packed a lunch. Yeah, that too.]
Poem by Kate Baer "When Uncle Brian Asks If We Sit Around and Burn Bras" #nationalpoetrymonth
From the poem My Friend Bethany Rages at the News.
Each section hit me hard this morning.
Thought-provoking yet accessible poems about womanhood and motherhood. I‘m not a mother, but I still loved this collection and found it funny, sad, and beautiful at different moments. She said in the acknowledgments that she wrote it in Panera, and I kind of love that.
I think I've enjoyed reflecting on reading this collection more than I enjoyed actually reading it. Some of Baer's lines really struck me; others felt trite. And I'm wondering about my inclination to dismiss the work out of hand- is it because I just didn't vibe with it on the whole? Or is it because I'm conditioned to think that middle class motherhood is not the stuff of Great Art? 👇👇👇
"This is not a dress rehearsal before a better kind of life."
Getting a little head start on National Poetry Month (April 2022). I am not usually a big fan of poetry. Probably because I haven‘t read a lot of it and when I do I sometimes don‘t understand it. Having said that, this was a short collection (120 pages) that I did understand and thought was quite relevant. I‘m not saying I‘m a big poetry fan after reading this book, but I did enjoy it.
Very interesting book of poetry! I don‘t read a lot of poetry, but follow Kate Baer on Instagram so decided to give this book a try. Loved the final section of poems and the final Author‘s Note and Acknowledgments - so clever! 4⭐️
while reading this I kept having those “yes! Someone gets it!” moments. I really enjoyed these and they felt so relatable.
All the yes. I love dipping in and out of this. So many marked pages and underlined notes.
You may be a woman of commotion and quiet.
Magic and brain.
though the neighbors will see and wonder
what kind of woman does such things
Devoured him whole, in one big bite, so he could see
just how hungry a woman can be
remember how you felt the day you were born:
desperate for magic, ready to love
To find the ones who say
I am not afraid of sitting in the dark with you
This is a part of it
Take a deep breath
Look at you kicking your legs
I came for the cover, but stayed for the #poetry 😍 some were sweet, some powerful. Overall a good collection from Kate for her first book. #poetrymatters
A beautifully honest, raw debut! Relatable, intimate poems about the difficulties of motherhood, love, marriage, and womanhood. Baer's words spoke to me several times, captured so many of my emotions and thoughts. Her candor about being a wife and mother are so spot on. I re read several of these poems and will enjoy coming back to this collection. Bear is a promising new voice to her genre. Available November 10th.
