“That was the black magic of a strong cup of coffee. It restored souls and mended all wounds.”
A decent storyline full of family drama and secrets that jumps back and forth between decades and points of view. This feels more like a story born in the deep south than it does Virginia. The plot twists were obvious and I‘m still grappling with all the family ties and trying not to use the I word… Book #57 in 2022
The April/May pick for my virtual foodie book club, overall I liked it but didn‘t love it. Pluses were the dual timeline—present & WWII & the characters & setting but I found it predictable with the “twists” not being a surprise to me & it was hard to go deep with the characters & the romance with so much going on. My bookish dish is a Honeysuckle Lemonade. I made a simple syrup from dried honeysuckle flowers & mixed it with tart lemonade.⬇️
I didn‘t do any #audiosouping today as I was on the phone with a friend & this simple Creamy Tomato Soup was so fast to make, but I did enjoy it with the tagged book for my virtual blogger foodie book club. I made this soup to dunk the spinach & sun-dried tomato focaccia bread I bought at a nearby craft fair yesterday. It was delicious. Recipe link ⬇️
I had some major issues with this book. The plot was at times difficult to follow because it spanned four generations of two families with two mysterious adoptions thrown in. My biggest issue was the dialogue. Most of the time it felt very unnatural and forced. It didn‘t flow like normal conversation. I won‘t be inclined to read anything else from this author.
This was my #BookSpin for November but I finished it early December. @TheAromaofBooks
Just downloaded this from kindle first reads, it sounds good, just what I need for a chilled out Sunday evening 🥰
