Well, it‘s Family Day long weekend and I am spending my Monday off catching up on work. But Saturday, I went to visit my goddaughters and their parents and I went to the public library - I think it was the girls‘ first trip! They were a little more into playing than the books (as pictured here - side note: how fun are libraries now?!), but walked out with three new books each! One was “The Very Quiet Cricket.” It was a great little outing 🤗

We have a very happy ONE YEAR OLD (today) who got an extra birthday gift from a kind person via #secretsantakids. I don‘t know who the mystery person is but I do know they picked absolutely perfect books! 📚 🎁 🎂

RebelReader Always makes me happy to see kids and books together. She is adorable! ❤️❤️ 7y

I would normally never post about anything not book related but this is too perfect. I teach a legal entrepreneurship class for aspiring food businesses, and today one of our students brought in cricket carrot cake cupcakes made with cricket flour! #creepycrawlies #hallowreads @JoeStalksBeck @Tiffy_Reads

rachel_mbc How were they?! 7y
PandaPanda @rachel_mbc not bad! He uses like 20% cricket flour so you can't really taste it but it makes them a bit softer. 7y
BooksForYears If you‘re looking for a bookish connection - cricket flour features in Robin Sloan‘s 7y

Bostonmomx2 Just....why? 😧 7y
PandaPanda @BooksForYears oh! That's exciting I'm getting that in my #botm this month!! 7y
PandaPanda @Bostonmomx2 apparently it's extremely good for you and more sustainable. I'm probably not going to make it part of my regular diet though 😜 7y
rubyslippersreads Are those real crickets on the cupcakes? 😱 7y
PandaPanda @rubyslippersreads those are pecans but he did tell me they would be whole crickets in the future! 🤤 7y
rachel_mbc @PandaPanda I've heard that insects are a good source of protein. I'd probably do better with flour in baked goods than identifiable bugs. 😂 7y
PandaPanda @rachel_mbc totally! I think the only way I ate it was knowing there wouldn't be any surprise legs or anything!! 7y
rachel_mbc @PandaPanda Yes! I was imagining an unpleasant crunch. 7y

Pickpick

The Very Quiet Cricket is an Animal Fantasy story by Eric Carle, who is known for his fun and colorful picture books. Each insect the cricket comes across says hello, but he is having trouble making noise with his wings. Will he ever learn how to make a sound? Find out by watching this read aloud: https://youtu.be/OWE3WIxulLg
