I know this history. I am familiar with the tragedies and struggles highlighted in this book...yet, it was still a difficult read.

Read this last night, during a rainstorm. I fell right into the beautifully drawn pages. Nearly cried twice, but took brief pauses from the book to calm myself.

This is to the point. Nothing over done. No unnecessary details.

Impactful graphic novel about Cree history and intergenerational trauma.

Wow, this started off with a very powerful chapter, as Edwin tries to kill himself as his mother rushes to him in the hospital. Particularly powerful, again, with Edwin‘s father and uncle at the residential school. It was a story of Edwin not only learning about the past, but having to come to terms with all of it and to forgive his father. It is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel, in colour.

A moving story with multiple timelines covers #Indigenous topics that are important to all Canadians, including the difficult legacy of residential schools and cultural genocide. A 4-part comic with full-colour digital art, collected in one volume. 🇨🇦

Book synchronicity: I‘m listening to a contemporary YA novel that references the same horrific historical events as the #indigenous graphic novel that I just finished reading (7 Generations). Passage in Jane Unlimited: “Smallpox could be used as a biological weapon again, like what the British did to the Native Americans at Fort Pitt during the French and Indian War.”

Wow! The seats on this Air NZ flight are so fancy they have a video explanation. Before the plane finishes boarding, I hope I can send this post off, because after that I will be in flight mode for 14 hours. #comicthon in the sky!

I'm not much for graphic novels or comics, but this was a really moving work of art. I heard Robertson interviewed on a podcast many months ago and finally got around to reading it. It's a healing, touching, important story: well told and gorgeously illustrated.
