An LGBTQIA+ read involving a book store and a mysterious power struggle over secret information sounded like a perfect pick for me. Unfortunately, I didn't love this. The writing style didn't quite work for me, and I didn't much enjoy the character relationship. The pacing also felt a bit off, and it's obvious the author doesn't know what PTSD is like. #LGBTQIA

I loved this 1920s romance/mystery trilogy. Loved the main pairing, and their fabulous besties, the conspiracies, the banter, the adventures.

Action packed with lots of twists around who to trust I enjoyed this 🌶️ story enough to read it in a day (glad I gave up on Thistlefoot so I could get to this!)

A 1920s historical fiction with queer characters. Will Darling is back from the war and has inherited his estranged uncle's bookshop. He starts getting visits from threatening men and people from the War Office looking for some mysterious & possibly dangerous information. When he meets the charming Lord Arthur "Kim" they work together to figure out the best course of action. This was spicier than I expected and had some great character development

Well this was a lot of fun as my friends @batsy and @CarolynM had said it would be! A mystery romance starts in a bookstore (what could be better!) with a post WW1 London setting.
I love KJ Charles but my favourite is still The Magpie Lord - I do love a bit of magic with my historical romances! If you haven‘t tried KJ Charles and don‘t mind the 🔥🔥you should try one of these #romantsy

I am barely getting to read at the moment but the girls are preeeetty great. Phoebe. 💙

So far, the pair of them are driving me mad and I want to bang their heads together. Honesty and good communication are going to be... scarce in this trilogy, I'm guessing. Which doesn't necessarily make them bad books, but makes them less my thing.

Finally got started and instantly read 50 pages in one go, of course! Will does seem silly to just instantly trust Kim like this.

This was a delight. It started off slow & I took some time to warm to it but then it got going. Described as "A 1920s m/m romance trilogy in the spirit of Golden Age pulp fiction", this made me read with full attention & a keen interest to get back into its world whenever I put it down. It's also pretty hot. I feel like writers should take lessons on how to write sex scenes from KJ Charles: this is how it should be. I am so rooting for these two!

I have been working my guts out for months between work and studying, but now it's the summer holiday, I quit one of my contracts and got a raise from another, and I think I'm ready for a bubble bath and a book.

Not positive I'll read this one yet, because I'm suuuch a mood reader and I'm being very flighty lately... But there's a good chance. 😂 I love KJ Charles' work and I'm excited this series is finished!

Entertaining

Thoroughly enjoyed these two (and am now patiently awaiting the third book) for the "fun" 1920s mystery with a bit of murder and people trying to communicate in their relationship, but the narration is positively horrendous.

I continue being super subtle with recommending books 😂 I‘m also sending a birthday card to Washington DC that I really hope arrives on time! Post seems to usually take a month (🇦🇺 to 🇺🇸) so I might be lucky! 🤞🏼

I've started the tagged book on audio and I'm enjoying it so far! Terra is keeping me company. She loves curling up in the pillows.

Rare novel representation of how book organising can take over your life 😂

This book kept me up! I should have just read it all in one go and been sleepy the next day because I‘m pretty sure I didn‘t sleep for feeling annoyed that I needed to sleep to function at work in the morning. Great mystery, hilarious banter and such subterfuge 😉🥰😅😫

Absorbing and fun with dark undernotes, I enjoyed meeting Will Darling and Kim Secretan. I will be keeping an eye out for the next few books!

Finished this audiobook on our afternoon walk. Great romantic mystery. The book is from the viewpoint of Will, who recently inherited a bookshop. And there is the mysterious Kim, who I couldn't help like even with some of the things he does in this book. A very charming book with action, mystery, romance, and a bookshop.

Got down to the last two hours of this audiobook on our #audiowalk at the Nature Park. 🌳 I'm enjoying this book very much.

How had I missed (and the Litsy catalogue too!) that the second book was out?

Just got back to my car after a nature park #audiowalk. Gorgeous evening and it cooled off enough that I started getting goosebumps. It was lovely.

5 stars! The first actual read that‘s made it through covid brain!

SLIPPERY CREATURES is fun as all get-out, what with the intrigue and the banter the daring rescues, but it‘s also heartwrenching because there‘s craploads of DANGER and hints of internalized self-loathing. The characters are great. (Especially Phoebe! Go, Phoebe, go!) There‘re all sorts of juicy layers to every little thing. I gobbled it down, grinning and gasping and oh-noing all the while, and you can bet I‘ll jump on the sequel. 5 stars

A reader advisory for the Quarantimes.

M/M romance with a 39 Steps type mystery and a 1920's setting told with wit and charm. Thoroughly enjoyable. #romantsy

I really enjoyed this. It‘s sparky and twisty and the setting is excellent - but readers take note of the 1 at the top of the cover because it is very much the first part in a trilogy if you know what I mean. If you don‘t, I‘ve put a basic explanation without actual plot spoilers in the first spoiler tag reply and a more spoilery (on the relationship front, not the thriller one) in the second spoiler tag reply.
