I don‘t usually do this but I just couldn‘t muscle through. Not sure what tone the author was going for here — it felt far too light & carefree for such a grisly plot.

BeansPage I felt the same way girl. 5y
jessinikkip You know I'm on like page 3 and y'all arent making me have much hope for this book 😄😄 5y
Melismatic @jessinikkip 🥴 I gave it to chapter six and just couldn‘t continue. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y

jessinikkip @Melismatic I will keep going then and we'll see where I end up at 5y
Julie548 I finished it...it wasn‘t the worst thing I‘ve ever read. It had a bit of a twist at the end. 5y
bibliobard @jessinikkip @Melismatic I got pretty far — I can‘t remember exactly where I stopped but it was a decent way through and something happened that I just couldn‘t stand. I think you put it well when you say it is the tone! Cause honestly it isn‘t that different from certain Criminal Minds episodes or SVU so I have been trying to figure out what bothered me! 5y
jessinikkip @Julie548 That helps, knowing theres something coming up different. Like I said, I'm just getting going, I'm behind lol So I cant say much yet. I might like it, might not, ya know 5y

Ok. I really did try to give this one a shot, I watch shows like Criminal Minds, so I tried to come at it from that angle—but then it just kept at the rape, violence and gore and I just couldn‘t any more. This book is too gruesome and feels unnecessarily insensitive to gender and race — I quit while the Chef was recounting one of his “meals.” Not a good read, and frankly disturbing...and I read Lolita once!#WomenReading

BeansPage Totally agree sweetheart, although I did not get that far into the book. 5y
Melismatic @Shakespearience @SumisBooks I think I‘m with both of you, unfortunately. I got through a few chapters but I‘m not really sure I can appreciate this type of tone. It feels pretty misogynistic and insensitive. 5y
bibliobard @Melismatic Right?! That is exactly how I felt — I pushed through pretty far thinking I could overlook it but eventually it was just too much! 5y

jessinikkip I keep meaning to start it but my new book journal keeps distracting me! I promise I'll read it before the end of the month! 5y
Julie548 I finished it this morning. It gets a little better as it goes on - makes more sense anyway. There are several things that could be done to make it better though!! 5y
