Ya‘ll...Arthurian Romances are structured SO differently than what we are used to but dang it if they‘re not fun. Episodic, atemporal, ahistorical, random af (that‘s a technical term that I made up) Glorious. 😄#ArthurianLegendsCourse Also, can we talk about Arthur‘s lazy ass? 😂😂

AshleyHoss820 @vivastory Thank you!! It‘s stacked! 😄 5y

Mehso-so

The storytelling style is WEIRD. Full of superlatives, oddly specific crowd yelling, and scenes that seem detailed but really aren't. My favourite was The Knight with the Lion, possibly because I don't hear that story as often and rolled my eyes less than I did at Lancelot's and Perceval's stories.

shanaqui Ahh, Chrétien. It's really something so different than we're used to -- it's hard sometimes to remember that the novel as a way of telling a story is a really modern form. I used to get so lost in romances when I first started studying, but I got the trick of it in the end. 7y
Avanders From when I read this (waaaaay back when), I remember the author's name. And that is all. 😠7y
rabbitprincess @shanaqui Yes, I think it was much easier for me to read within the context of the class, with the professor to explain the background and clarify things for us. @Avanders 😠I didn't remember much either -- I seem to have forgotten we didn't even read the first two romances! 7y

Arthurian Romances | Chrétien (de Troyes)

I need your help Littens! I really need to read a novel featuring a romance between two people with a significant age difference. NOT a creepy one like Lolita. One where everyone involved is perfectly old enough. Hopefully not an actual romance novel, but I'll consider that too. Ideas? #recommendations

rubyslippersreads I think there is a significant age difference between Jane and Mr. Rochester. 8y
IamIamIam Too bad Harold & Maud wasn't a book...lol, unless it is and I don't know about it! 8y
TheBookDream @rubyslippersreads Ooooh. I've been meaning to read that! @iamiamiam Looks like a good movie. And it was adapted into a play. 8y

rubyslippersreads @iamiamiam I think there is a novelisation of the movie. 8y
IamIamIam I saw a few lists on Goodreads but it seems like vampire romances are the lowest hanging fruit.. 8y
IamIamIam Lol, And that was Maude...I never spell that right, so sorry!!! 8y
IamIamIam Oh my, @rubyslippersreads I may have to find that!!!! Good looking out! 8y
thec0zy I really love Uprooted and the romance in it. It is a fantasy novel. 8y
Taayasbooks How much is significant? The Paper Magician trilogy (mainly fantasy) contains a romance of a master and his (adult) student and they both fight falling in love. But it's only a gap of 10 years or so. 8y

For the "bookish gifts" prompt on today's #seasonsreadings2016, here are a couple of gifts I gave my best friend: a Penguin notebook and a Penguin lapel pin, bought at the Penguin Shop in downtown Toronto. The Arthurian Romances book is not a gift; it is a book I read for a King Arthur course in university, hence the sticky notes ?

rabbitprincess @LauraBrook I should have bought one for myself! 8y
