I finished but it was a struggle. Some parts I think I sort of understood, others not at all. The pictures sometimes clarified things, sometimes didn't.

I did gather that the important thing is whether the mathematical theory accounts for observations and makes verifiable predictions, without worrying about what reality corresponds to the maths, which we can visualise in different ways. So perhaps it doesn't matter if I understand it.

Ich bin schon ziemlich traurig. Und das, obwohl ich jedes Mal, wenn ich versucht habe, das Buch zu lesen, schon nach kurzer Zeit aufgeben musste, weil ich einfach _nichts_ verstanden habe.

Slowly working my way through smart people books! I do think I understand a bit more each time I listen to one.

rwmg I used to think SF had given me a reasonable educated lay understanding of what physics and cosmology say aout the universe till I started reading Hawking 7y
