I liked the plot: female jewel thief pursued by an Earl sworn to uphold the law; they fall for each other. But I felt it could have easily been 100 pages shorter. The characters were ok. A lot of times their internal musings went on for longer than necessary and I couldn‘t often tell whose voice was whose. I do wish Emmy‘s grandmother would have been in more scenes as she was great.

I enjoyed Bateman‘s Ruthless Rivals series immensely, but I‘ve been underwhelmed by the Bow Street Bachelors. While this has plenty of snarky banter, there‘s an excessive amount of whiny, angsty internal dialogue from both MCs, much of which felt like filler to make a word count. I would have preferred more of the cat-and-mouse game between the MCs and less of the internal angst. The side characters are great, though.

5 ⭐ Book 3 in series. I devoured this book! Bateman's writing is fantastic. Sebastien is the reluctant rogue who of course never wants to marry, but he's met his match with Anya. Their chemistry was rich and wonderful. The characters were fully developed and I enjoyed watching them fall in love so much. All the traditions and superstitions that were woven into the story, just makes it that much more enjoyable! It was heartfelt, funny and sweet.

Alex has been haunted by the woman from his past with that perfume and once he gets another scent of her, he knows who she is and what she‘s doing. Loved and hated that part. There‘s great passion between hero & heroine even when they‘re arguing. The secondary characters are interesting. I like that Emmy is always one step ahead of Alex and frustrates him to no end. I liked the camaraderie between Alex, Seb, and Benedict (Bow Street Bachelors).

Second in series from a new-to-me author. A bit different as the heroine had been swooning after the hero from a distance for awhile before they met. She‘s a jewel thief, he‘s an aristocrat who helps out Bow Street. While not earth shattering, it was fun with good cat-and-mouse byplay/banter/chemistry between the leads. #romantsy 3.5/5⭐️
