Daisey I pretty much auto buy new Korman books for my class library, but I‘ve yet to read this one. After this review, I may need to move it up the TBR list. 7mo

#MGbookwhisperer #VeteransDay
Wolf Hollow features a girl who befriends a reclusive WWI veteran who is misunderstood in his community.
War Stories takes a boy and his great-grandfather back to France to be honored for his heroism, but the memories aren't all good. Deftly exposes the reality and grey areas of war.
The Unsung Hero of Birdsong, USA contrasts a celebrated white veteran and an unsung black veteran. Gently tells a story of injustice.

Love Gordon Korman. Great book! It went back and forth between present day and WWII. Trevor‘s great grandfather takes him to France to get a medal for liberating a town…but someone doesn‘t want them there.

This was didn‘t thrill me because the main character Jacob Firestone is so heroic and lucky that it becomes unbelievable. Students may enjoy this but I‘m not sure it sends the right message.

Book 31 #MGMarch History and insight are packed into this nuanced tale of battle, memory, and family. 12-yr old Trevor learns harrowing truths about war when he revisits Normandy with his veteran great-grandfather. Chapters alternate between a 17 yr old infantryman trying to survive and Trevor as he travels through France to learn how war affected lives. Great detail, but the reader has to pay close attention to follow the action in this one.

Interesting characters and story arc. The WWII sections were poignant and intense while the contemporary portions were lectures on the evils of war. I agree but think it could have been handled in a much more subtle way.

Fiction: This story teaches us that if we help and fight for what is right and never back down, then you should get rewarded later on in your life. The ww2 veteran is the last allied soldier that was deployed in Germany. He was asked to come to Ste. Régine to be honored by the people, but he brings his great grandson and his grandson along as well, showing that sharing accomplishments are a good way for people to learn.

Fiction: There isn't a connection on what the Grandpa is saying and what he has done, but the kid on the other hand, there is. He is playing World War 2 video games, which I have also played. It gets him interested on what his grandpa did and how gruesome it was. I like the type of war games because it gives you details on what, where, how, and why the war happened. its very interesting to see what the soldiers saw on different events.
