After the death of his mother, Josh goes to live with his uncle, Calum, a farmer on a remote Scottish island. Uprooted and lonely, Josh spends his free time wandering over the wild countryside and rescuing animals which are injured or ill. One day, when he finds a tiny Border collie pup left to drown in the river, he decides to look after her and keep her as his own. But money is tight on the farm, and Calum has forbidden all pets, so Josh must raise the pup without anyone else knowing. And when someone discovers Josh's secret, it threatens to ruin everything . . .
