Destination Dachshund
Destination Dachshund: Three Months, Three Generations, and Sixty Dachshunds | Lisa Fleetwood
3 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
"A likable author makes for a likable, dog-centric travel book." - Kirkus ReviewWith teenage children and in-laws in tow, the Fleetwood family embark on their 3 month adventure just days after the tragic loss of their beloved dachshund, Coco. When two miniature dachshunds in smart winter coats are spotted in Moscow, it's game on! A riotous, often hilarious dachshund spotting competition for the lovable, long-bodied dog ensues across 15 countries. Filled with love, laughter, and sadness at times, Destination Dachshund offers a unique twist on the travel memoir with remembrance for those who have been loved and lost, at the heart of one family's extraordinary adventure through Turkey, Russia, the Baltics, Europe and the United States. Through the wonder of travel, this remarkable travelogue explores the bond of extended family, the abiding love we have for our pets and the grieving for loved ones, both human and hound.

Mehso-so

Despite covering 15 countries, this travel memoir didn‘t quite work for me. It‘s cute and fluffy, but I felt I didn‘t get much sense of most of the places. Instead, it‘s more about what it‘s like to travel with this family. I also found the privilege on display and the moments of cultural insensitivity (there weren‘t many) to rankle a bit. And it starts with a doggie death, so be warned.

BarbaraTheBibliophage Aww. The face on the cover would‘ve sold me ... too bad it didn‘t live up to the promise. 4y
Cinfhen I agree, not the best travelogue but it covered TONS of Eastern European countries and that was a big plus....I listened to the audio and her Australian accent was so darn charming ....totally infectious 🎧💕 4y
Hooked_on_books @Cinfhen I do love an Aussie accent (who doesn‘t), so I wouldn‘t have minded that at all! 4y

Pickpick

If you‘re planning a family trip to the Baltic‘s, Eastern Europe or Central Europe this travelogue would make a wonderful guide. It‘s filled with daily itineraries & shares personal family recommendations for eateries, activities, shops & basic travel hints. It‘s also a sweet story of a multigenerational 3 month trip shared amongst a family from Australia who are grieving the lost of a grandfather/father/husband and their dachshund pup, Coco. 👇🏼

I picked this up on Scribd when I typed #Estonia into the search bar. It‘s actually a sweet, heartwarming travelogue featuring a family of 4, and three grandparents as they travel The Baltic‘s. The narrator‘s voice is lovely & the author who has a travel blog is likeable and relatable😍#ReadingEurope2020 #Estonia but many other countries are visited.

Cinfhen This is great to dip in and out of as each chapter is the family‘s itinerary. It‘s also PERFECT for #Booked2020 #ArmChairTravel and #LiveAndLearn - I‘d recommend this one @NeedsMoreBooks @Librarybelle 5y
Hooked_on_books Thanks for posting this! I have nothing in my stacks for Estonia. My library didn‘t have it, but I found it for only $2.99 on nook. That‘s a win! 5y
