"When Pru Steiner met and married Spence Robin--her dazzling young hotshot English professor at Columbia--she thought she knew what she was signing up for. But thirty years later, when Spence develops early-onset Alzheimer's, the peaceful (if ambivalent) life Pru has built for herself begins to crumble. Spence is no longer the Great Man she fell in love with, and as his needs become more pronounced, Pru finds herself short on money, overwhelmed by responsibility and, for the first time in decades, in need of companionship. Further complicating things is Arlo, Spence's son from an earlier marriage, who feels he has never lived up to his father's expectations, and who might be Spence's best hope. Moving and deeply-felt, Morningside Heights is a warm-hearted story about love in the face of illness, about the support networks that surround us, and about what a marriage means when your partner is no longer the person you fell in love with"--

#12BooksOf2022 @Andrew65 - March
I remember listening to this audio straight through in a day. It‘s the story of Pru & Spence - their courtship & marriage and then the rhythms and beats of life. A quiet heartfelt novel that left me in tears. This probably should have made my #Top22Of22

Andrew65 Sounds brilliant. Stacked. 2y

A beautiful story about a quotidian experience that is painful but happening every day.

I won‘t pretend this book is anything original or earth shattering BUT I LOVED it 🥰 #AllTheFeels for the NYC setting and the courtship & marriage of Pru & Spence. This story felt personal and believable and I found myself tearing up by the end.

BkClubCare Whoa! When I first saw this post, I thought I had met this author. But no, only virtually. I had reviewed his book Matrimony on my blog in 2008 (😳?!) and he had left a nice reply. Stacked. 3y
BarbaraBB Have a safe flight Cindy! We‘ll keep I‘m touch ❤️ 3y
Cinfhen Oh wow @BkClubCare 2008! Do you still keep a blog?? Apparently this author is a genuinely nice guy. He was a grade ahead of a few of my friends who went to a small Jewish HS in NYC. Have fun @squirrelbrain can‘t wait to hear how Henry manages!! I‘m sure he‘ll love it. Thanks @BarbaraBB 💕💕💕 3y

Originally got this as an #ARC from #netgalley. It sounded like a book that was right up my alley. Family drama over decades with evolving parent child relationships. I was pretty disappointed. There were some great opportunities here to explore the dynamics of this family but too many side plots and characters and it just didn‘t work for me. nothing really happened, nor did the characters change significantly from start to finish. dull. ⭐️⭐️

I flew through this book in record time. I honestly don‘t know why I found it so good, but I did. It was really just about an ordinary family living a semi-ordinary life. Throw in a little Alzheimer‘s (which really sucks), a bit of family disfunction, and you end up with a wonderful story. It was heartfelt. Thank you, Goodreads, for the ARC!

This book has not been hyped enough. It was a beautiful story. There were some definite Clare Fuller vibes in this novel. Henkin did a masterful job exploring complicated relationships & addressing how love changes between people over a lifetime. I love novels that make me cry & this one did. A beautiful story that follows the evolution of a family over a lifespan. ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Pru meets Spence while in his class at Columbia University. They get married and have the idyllic family. 30 years later, at the prime of their lives, something is very wrong with Spence and very quickly all of their lives change. Told from Pru their daughter Sara and Spence‘s son Arlo, Henkin gives a very realistic view of a families that is struggling, interspersed with memories of their lives through the 30 years.

I'm working my first Saturday since April 2020. We started weekend hours this month. I'm cataloging and thought the dust cover for this book was upside-down, but discovered the pages inside were put in upside-down and the end of the book is at the front. I don't need to send it back though, since the dust cover will cover up the fact that spine is now upside-down.
