This was quite a dark book! The premise is Romilly has books written about her and her pet by her father. They live in a worndown house and she doesn't go to school. Her mother left when she was young, comes back, but the leaves again. She has one friend but that relationship isn't always stable. The books make herself and her father famous and they seem to think there is a treasure to find. Some random people come to their house.
😳where do I start
Not sure I would have got to the end if I was reading a hard copy but through audio book this was really enchanting to begin with, you can‘t deny it‘s beautifully written but made me feel so uncomfortable at times.Quite whimsical but chilling at a slow pace, I couldn‘t stop listening
Triggers: child neglect, grief ,mental illness, loneliness , dementia, abandonment to list a few ,all told through the eyes of an innocent child.
I didn‘t enjoy this book. It took me all my time to read it. I know that this book has received a lot of praise about it being wonderful, magical and compelling. But I can‘t relate at all to these views. To be honest some parts of this book are very dark and disturbing.
