#OnThisDay in 1942 poet and editor Hattie Gossett was born. Best known for her collections "Presenting Sister–NoBlues" and "the immigrant suite", she was also an editor for True Story, Redbook, and McCall's. Gossett was Managing Editor for Essence magazine in the early development stages but was fired for, in her words, being "too Black". She has devoted much of her life and work to bolstering the self-esteem of young black women. #HistoryGetsLIT
