Amnesia
Amnesia: A novel | Peter Carey
3 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
The two-time Booker Prize winner now gives us an exceedingly timely, exhilarating novelat once dark, suspenseful, and seriously funnythat journeys to the place where the cyber underworld collides with international power politics. When Gaby Baillieux releases the Angel Worm into Australias prison computer system, hundreds of asylum-seekers walk free. And because the Americans run the prisons (lets be honest: as they do in so many parts of her country) the doors of some five thousand jails in the United States also open. Is this a mistake, or a declaration of cyber war? And does it have anything to do with the largely forgotten Battle of Brisbane between American and Australian forces in 1942? Or with the CIA-influenced coup in Australia in 1975? Felix Moore, known to himself as our sole remaining left-wing journalist, is determined to write Gabys biography in order to find the answersto save her, his own career, and, perhaps, his country. But how to get Gabyon the run, scared, confused, and angryto cooperate? Bringing together the world of hackers and radicals with the special relationship between the United States and Australia, and Australia and the CIA, Amnesia is a novel that speaks powerfully about the often hidden pastbut most urgently about the more and more hidden present. From the Hardcover edition.

Debdeb But also imagine the possibilities of being able to forget a particular book to then experience it for the first time again 5y
mrsmarch @Debdeb This is not a problem for me, I‘m quite adept at immediately forgetting all but the most basic details of any book I read. 😆 5y

Pickpick

In future I need to read a Peter Carey novel rather than listening. They‘re too convoluted and plot driven, full of diversions and twists so a light listen is not adequate. Anyway this is a good book about cyber terrorism and what drives the them to do the extreme. I liked it ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌛from me,
