I definitely chose a doozy for getting back into manga/graphic novels. It was good though. The clerk at my bookstore told me she liked this version better than the original because of the feeling of hope at the end of a story about hopelessness. And I can definitely see that even though I didn't read the original. 3.5/5 from me. ⚠️check TWs⚠️

Manga adaptation of original novel by Osamu Dazai. I haven't read a graphic novel or manga since high school and man I chose a doozy to step back into that world. Good so far though Junji Ito, in my understanding, is one of the leading names for manga horror. ⚠️ Check your trigger warnings⚠️

Of course I loved this :)

This is Junji Ito‘s manga adaptation of “No Longer Human” by Osamu Dazai. The story is a semi-autobiography based on his experience with alienation and depression. The original is also considered his suicide note as him and his lover drowned themselves together shortly after the book‘s publication. Mr. Dazai‘s story accompanied by Mr. Ito‘s artwork, the story is sad yet encapsulating. If you like deep depressing stories, i‘d recommend this book.

📚 my other B&N purchase from today. I love it when a dust jacket hides a beautiful hardcover! So pretty! I know it‘s another Junji Ito but it was on an end display & spoke to me. Graphic novel based on Osamu Dazai's masterpiece. Very curious about this adaptation.

I have to say this book wreaked me emotionally. I finished it in two days. This book was so good and is one of my favorite of the year. (So far) my bf told me about this one and the story behind it and man this was a good suggestion from him. If you like manga, horror and a story that will keep you hooked from the start I highly recommend this one.

Wow... Just wow.
This manga was heartbreaking, I had to stop reading every now and then to reflect.
Poor guy, Ill probably look into his book and maybe his works.
