The Pursuit Of...
The Pursuit Of... | Courtney Milan
3 posts | 4 read
What do a Black American soldier, invalided out at Yorktown, and a white British officer who deserted his post have in common? Quite a bit, actually. • They attempted to kill each other the first time they met. • They're liable to try again at some point in the five-hundred mile journey that they're inexplicably sharing. • They are not falling in love with each other. • They are not falling in love with each other. • They are… Oh, no. The Pursuit Of… is a love affair between two men and the Declaration of Independence. It’s a novella of around 38,000 words.

The author packed a lot into this novella. John and Henry could hardy come from more different backgrounds so it takes them much of their walk from Yorktown to Rhode Island to understand each other but I loved watching their journey. Despite the often heavy, loaded conversations there was a lot of humor. Henry is a delight, John is as solid as they come, and the cheese was practically it's own character. (IYKYK 😆)

CoffeeK8 Her books are just so lovely! 3mo
bookandbedandtea @CoffeeK8 Before this, it had been years since I read one of her books but now I'm going to start seeking her out. Do you have any favorites? I think this one sounds good 3mo
CoffeeK8 @bookandbedandtea my favorite is Unlocked. It‘s an amazingly heartfelt bully romance where the HEA is well earned 3mo
CoffeeK8 I also really enjoyed all the books in The Duke Who didn‘t series 3mo
bookandbedandtea @CoffeeK8 Unlocked sounds good! I've added it to my list. 😊 3mo

Last night I tucked up in bed with my mopey dog and another excellent Courtney Milan novel. It was the best possible way to spend a too-damned-cold evening.

Henry is very adorable. John takes some time to warm up to, but as he warms up to Henry, I warmed up to him. The cheese thing is very silly, but also cute.

I do enjoy their HEA as well. It doesn't go the easy route with it.

There is a sex scene which is skippable. There is also a scene with non-sexual intimacy which is adorable.
