“And I guess it‘s about courage, too. The courage to love despite loss of any kind. If you can‘t see anything good in yourself or the world right now, see that part. See courage. That will guide you like it guides me.”

Ruby‘s mother is killed and is dismissed as just another crime on the south side of Chicago. Secrets kill in this book. Great read.
I enjoyed this book. Seeing the strong friendship and bond that Ruby and Layla had for each other was very refreshing. Also, the use of family ties and how generational trauma is real and can affect people even to this day from families' past secrets and mistakes shows how down to earth this novel is. Catherine Adel West did a wonderful job writing this book and creating a story that stays with you as a reader.
When you are traveling for your birthday and buy a new 📕.
