ROOMMATE WANTED to share a gorgeous sun-filled apartment in Central Harlem. Must love cats. No ex-husbands or wives need apply. Seventeen years ago, different dreams pulled Simon Mizrahi and Lana Kuo apart. But when Lana takes a position as a chef back in Manhattan, her apartment search puts her right in her ex-husbands path. Music teacher Simon is also hunting for a new place to live, and when Lana proposes they be platonic roomies, wellits not the worst idea hes ever heard. A sunny uptown two-bedroom sounds far more appealing than the cramped, noisy space where hes currently struggling to work. Still, Simon has seen firsthand that Lanas a flight risk, so he agrees on a trial basis. Three months. With strict boundaries. Living together again feels wonderfully nostalgic, but when the ex-couples lingering feelings rise to the surface, the rules go out the window. Of course, chemistry was never their problem. But while Simons career feels back on solid footing, Lana is still sorting out what she wants. With their trial period soon coming to an end, theyll have to decide if their living arrangement was merely a sexy trip down memory lane or a reunion meant to last. One-click with confidence. The third book in Ruby Lang's Uptown series, House Rules, is an engaging romance novel about finding love with someone again. Simon and Lana were married over a decade ago, but when their marriage ended, they separated definitively. Until they happen upon each other one day on an apartment tour and reconnect. They agree to co-habitate as roommates only, drawn together by their mutual need for a new place, if not a new partner.⠀⬇️

I'm a fan of Lang's contemporary romance novels, and while this one had the same great atmosphere and nice relationship, I didn't feel as if each character's motivation was drawn quite as strongly as in the previous Uptown novels. Still, this is a fun, quick read: at right around 150 pages, it's well worth your time!⠀

Do you have other quick reads you'd recommend? Is anyone else keeping up with the Uptown series?

This was shorter than I was expecting, but that‘s not necessarily a bad thing. It did seem to rush the ending a bit though, although I did still enjoy the ending. And as a 41 year old divorcee, I greatly enjoyed the story for 2 40 something‘s reconnect!

4/5

I really enjoyed this fun romance. Lana and Simon are a divorce couple that get a second chance at love when they end up becoming roommates. I really enjoyed that the protagonists were in their 40s, since most romance books focus on people in their 20s and 30s. I enjoyed it, and will have to check out more of the series.
