Mehso-so

Viv's 52, in the midst of menopause, mother of two children (20ish + 7 y/o), working as a PA in a pellet factory, when she finds out that her husband has an affair with a colleague from work. They try to save their marriage but eventually he leaves her. Now Viv has to pick up the shards of her life. She does so quite well, but the story presentation is dull and convoluted. I skim-read the second half of the #ARC.

#NetGalley

TheAromaofBooks I feel like this is now the plot of every book. I'm not sure why every journey of self-discovery for middle-aged women has to start with a cheating husband... 5y
jb72 @TheAromaofBooks Exactly! A woman of any age can go on self discovery and it does NOT have to be because of a man or his actions. 5y
TheAromaofBooks I understand that authors are trying to have a catalyst, but this constant barrage of “no marriage lasts forever because literally every single man on the planet is a cheating bastard and actually you are better off without him anyway“ kind of gets old to me. There are plenty of catalysts! In my personal life, one day I was sitting at my desk & realized I hated my job & my husband fully supported my decision to try something new! /end rant🙄 @jb72 5y
jb72 @TheAromaofBooks I agree. Many men are fully supportive and loving in their relationships. Lately it seems there is nonstop man bashing. 5y

Happy first day of December and first Sunday in Advent. We have perfect reading weather. Overcast, foggy, freezing. I'm snuggling up on the sofa with #booksandtea and my lovely Scandinavian candles.

My son, @the_magicreader, choose the decorations, btw.

@Kalalalatja can you tell us what the "pixie" is called in Danish?

youneverarrived Lovely 💕 5y
Kalalalatja Lovely decorations! We call it a “nisse” 🎅🏼 5y
julesG @Kalalalatja Thanks! I thought so, but Matt Haig's A Boy Called Christmas made me think it's something to do with 'Tomte'. 5y

Kalalalatja I have never heard of a Tomte 🤔 5y
julesG @Kalalalatja Haig had the term Tomtegubb but I can't remember what exactly it referred to. 5y
julesG @Kalalalatja It did not refer to Santa Claus. 5y
