It‘s engaging historical fiction with a bit of fantasy thrown in. I recommend it because it‘s entertaining and gives food for thought.

Not quite a sequel to Under Heaven; the characters of the first book have passed into legend. The first book told the story of the beginning of the fall of the Tong Dynasty. This one tells the end of the fall of the Sung Dynasty. The first was more heroic, the second more elegiac. Ren Daiyan, an outlaw who rises to army general, and Lin Shan, the best poet of the generation when women don't write poetry, save what they can from history's river.
I found a beautiful and tranquil spot to read at Longwood Gardens! 📚💕🌾⛲
While visiting my family I stopped in to visit my favorite used bookstore that I used to go to all the time when I lived in the area! 📚💕 One of the reasons I love it so much is because it specializes in used fantasy and sci fi books! 😍 It was so awesome to talk to the owner, who remembered me by name even though I haven't been there in two years! 🤗I bought a nice copy of the tagged book while I was there! 💕📚
So I loved this but was also a little bored with it..? It was slow and lyrical and beautifully written which, depending on my mood, meant I was either completely absorbed or easily distracted. I loved, however, how the different narratives slowly weave together and I was flicking through the last few chapters desperate to know what happened. Overall, it's a pick but needs to be read in long sittings (and not with a toddler rampaging around!)
Here's my weekly check in for #BFCr2 ! I've finished one (skinny) book and I'm halfway through three others so I'm happy with the bookish part of the challenge. Not a great week fitness-wise with lots of family stuff and a new baby to coo over, but I still managed to go for an 8 mile hike and a run.

My favourite fitness thing is a toss up between the Couch to 5K app and Yoga with Adrienne videos. I'm in a house with five adults, two cats, and an almost-toddler so finding a quiet room for yoga is impossible at the moment! So running it is 😀

A lazy day in the garden is the perfect place to read RIVER OF STARS. It's slow and beautifully written and can't be read in small snippets - I'm enjoying it so far!

I spent some time rearranging them yesterday... not that you can tell since they're just as full. But it was relaxing.
My brother is moving in with me so I cleared some space on my living room shelves!
(Same brother who fell and broke his face three weeks ago! He‘s doing much better and the move is unrelated to his injury.)
Got to work early today, so I‘m taking a few moments to myself. I‘m finishing up my first cup of coffee and sneaking more of this immersive book.
I got to see Guy Gavriel Kay at the Wild Writers Fest last September. He was an interesting speaker and he had a lot of cool stories about his research. I'm excited to dive into this one!
I am embarrassed to say how long ago my cousin lent this to me. #imlateimlate #novemberland #day1 @TizJ3ss

I tend to prefer reading e-books of big books so I was surprised to find that I did have a few on my shelves! Every so often I pull out the Art of Eating to read a few pages. And I'm very slowly making my way through the short story anthology. River of Stars is the only one I've not touched yet! Time to remedy that!
