There are legitimate concerns about HPL's personal views which are well documented elsewhere. Speaking only for the short story, it was an interested diversion from HPL's typical settings. Ancient Egypt is always fascinating & is fertile ground for the pseudo-history HPL weaves into his tales. The protagonist, Harry Houdini, commissioned HPL to write it. I found the beginning/middle very exciting but was bored with the “horror“ of the ending.
