Final Crisis (New Edition)
Final Crisis (New Edition) | Grant Morrison
6 posts | 11 read | 1 to read
What happens when evil wins? That's the question Superman, Batman, the Justice League and every being in the DCU have to face when Darkseid and his otherworldly legion of narcissistic followers actually win the war between light and dark. Featuring the deaths and resurrections of major DC characters, FINAL CRISIS is more than your average multi-part event-it's a deconstruction of Super Hero comics and a challenging, thought-provoking take on the modern, four-color icons.

Well I did it! I read Grant Morrison‘s Batman run (please don‘t tell me if I missed any). While it started and ended on a high note, it sure was a slog at points to get through. Morrison is definitely a non-linear storyteller, and that led to a jumpy jumbled tale. The twist? Not really a twist. More of an ‘oh, well that‘s obvious‘.

It sort of killed my run of reading graphic novels. I should have starting with Scott Snyder.

Still working through my graphic novel pile! I‘ve finally started Grant Morrison‘s Batman run, and after taking so long to buy them and figure out the reading order... I‘m not quite sure how I feel... or what‘s happening... #currentlyreading

GrilledCheeseSamurai That sounds about right for Grant Morrison. 😂. I found his run had a lot of peaks and valleys for me. Scott Snyder's run on modern Batman was, for me, alot more enjoyable. 🤷‍♂️ 5y
StellaDz @GrilledCheeseSamurai I‘m finding it all over the place. Not very cohesive! I have Snyder‘s run as well! I love everything he does! 5y

This isn‘t a bad story, nor told poorly. This is a pretty decent book, but unfortunately, it carries the name ‘Final Crisis‘, and with it, the baggage that heritage carries. It is not as great as the previous ‘crisis‘ events in the DC Universe. It is not nearly as good as Marvel‘s ‘Infinity War‘ storyline.
It is good, though. Just not as good.

Final Crisis is Grant Morrison's epic DC storyline. It has a million characters (often in unfamiliar guises) and is a bit confusing on a first read. Morrison excels at conjuring seemingly unstoppable dark forces, though the heroes generally survive.

For the most part, I really enjoyed this Superman-centric graphic novel. However, there was a part in the middle that went really deep into the whole multi-verse thing and I kind of lost interest for a little bit. But the artwork in this one is absolutely amazing.
