A collection of Ursula K Le Guin‘s essays discussing science fiction and fantasy, writing, inspiration, and humanity.
Le Guin‘s nonfiction is just as insightful and inspiring as her fiction is. She had such a powerful way with words as she discusses the evolution of sci-fi and how her writing has grown. Every single essay made me either want to reread everything of hers, or get started again on my own writing. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
Interesting series of essays showing LeGuin was passionate about her art & argues that real-life experiences & the unconscious make an authentic & “real” fantasy/sci-fi novel & she uses Jungian psychology to encourage other authors to look inward (the Self) for inspiration. Also discusses feminism, censorship & pulp novels. The introductions by Susan Wood were pretty dry. I skipped those. 🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶8/10 quills

Day 7 #readingwomenmonth - books about books. If you haven't read any of LeGuin's non-fiction, I highly recommend it. Incredibly smart. I've read The Language of the Night but Dancing at the Edge of the World is still on my tbr.
This is now top of my list when asked 'what book would you pick up just for the cover?'! It is so delightful - thank you, 1979 😗
This 1979 book of Le Guin essays didn't have a description on Litsy so just adding a photo of the flap copy to entice you. As a heavy fantasy reader, I can hardly wait to dip in...
