The new post-apocalyptic collection by master anthologist John Joseph Adams, featuring never-before-published stories and curated reprints by some of the genre's most popular and critically-acclaimed authors. In WASTELANDS: THE NEW APOCALYPSE, veteran anthology editor John Joseph Adams is once again our guide through the wastelands using his genre and editorial expertise to curate his finest collection of post-apocalyptic short fiction yet. Whether the end comes via nuclear war, pandemic, climate change, or cosmological disaster, these stories explore the extraordinary trials and tribulations of those who survive. Featuring never-before-published tales by: Veronica Roth, Hugh Howey, Jonathan Maberry, Seanan McGuire, Tananarive Due, Richard Kadrey, Scott Sigler, Elizabeth Bear, Tobias S. Buckell, Meg Elison, Greg van Eekhout, Wendy N. Wagner, Jeremiah Tolbert, and Violet Allen--plus, recent reprints by: Carmen Maria Machado, Carrie Vaughn, Ken Liu, Paolo Bacigalupi, Kami Garcia, Charlie Jane Anders, Catherynne M. Valente, Jack Skillingstead, Sofia Samatar, Maureen F. McHugh, Nisi Shawl, Adam-Troy Castro, Dale Bailey, Susan Jane Bigelow, Corinne Duyvis, Shaenon K. Garrity, Nicole Kornher-Stace, Darcie Little Badger, Timothy Mudie, and Emma Osborne. Continuing in the tradition of WASTELANDS: STORIES OF THE APOCALYPSE, these 34 stories ask: What would life be like after the end of the world as we know it?

Pickpick

34 tales of what the world might look like after climate, after viruses, after alien invasions, after the rabies becomes airborne. There were a couple that dragged the middle making me wonder if we needed all 34 but for the most part they were great. One of my favorites is these 2 women in Alaska. One has just cut up her first human body for food. The camp is split up into people who will not eat other humans and the ones who will. Her wife is👇🏼

Reggie is one of the ones who won‘t eat another human. They are starving so much that the woman who eats the 1st human cries at the relief of eating. At the end of the story after they have found candy and are sharing M&M‘s in bed when the one who won‘t eat human meat turns and tells her, if I die I want you to eat me because I love you. Awwwww lol #consentissexy This was a pick! (edited) 13mo
Bookzombie Lol love the hashtag! David jokes that I would eat him. 😏 13mo
Reggie @Bookzombie I don‘t know if you ever watch Tricia and Katya. But they‘re 2 drag queens who@have this show on YouTube called queens who like to watch. It‘s like when you watch a bad movie with friends and ya‘ll just make fun of it. I got that hashtag from them. They‘re hilarious. 13mo
Bookzombie @Reggie I have, because you told me about them before. 🙂 They are the reason I didn‘t feel the need to watch the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I watched them watch it. Lol 13mo

These stories keep surprising me. This one is about Marisol who happens to find herself in a panic room when the world ends. She watches The Facts of Life on repeat and has conversations with Tootie and Mrs, Garret about the last thing she said to her best friend and her decision to become a doctor instead of becoming a playwright. She goes out into the world after a couple of months for the 1st time and finds a bottle with a genie in it.👇🏼

Reggie A genie who just happens to be an ex theatre critic. She gets to make 3 wishes but before she does she‘ll write a new play while thinking about what they‘ll be. My wish is that Pedro Almodovar would read this and make a movie about it. Hopeful. 13mo
merelybookish Great review! Not my genre but am always up for The Facts of Life! 😄 13mo

Ok ya‘ll. Looking at the cover you could never tell that the first 3 stories have turned on my heart light. Especially this one about 2 girls who started as best friends then later became girlfriends in an underground city. An underground city because of nuclear devastation. But then one gets infected by a fungus to the point where they have to cut slits for her mouth and eyes. The end is her gf takes her up top to see the sky before she dies. 😭

Centique Oh wow that sounds heart breaking. AND scary. 😳 13mo

Found coworker Tilney snoozing on the job, so I propped a book next to him as a little prank. Jokes on me, tho. He just curled up closer and snored away. He‘s been sleeping like this for 45 minutes now. 😹 #catsoflitsy
