Rural noir! I‘m a boots on city sidewalk type and countrysides make me nervous; too quiet at night.One summer a girlfriend got a little red truck and we spent a lot of time driving around rural upstate NY (spiedies in Binghamton!)and northeast PA. Cool when places I know is mentioned in book. Henry is a burned out soul in the desolate landscape.Body count goes up, meth dealers, and fracking workers sly and creepy old family secrets the worst.

This was just okay for me. I really wanted to like it more than I did because I usually enjoy books with a rural setting. I just couldn‘t get drawn into the story. I‘m sure it‘s just me. 😕

The story itself was well constructed, but it was narrated in the first person and that felt a little rocky. Good enough, though, to give the next one in the series a try. If you like mysteries with an environmental element, it might be worth a shot.

Quick and well-paced mystery that takes place in rural Pennsylvania. Good, but I didn't find it to have the zing that others did.

A little reading before bed. My main Book squeeze right now, The Lemon Tree, is a little heavy for my tired little head right now. So, I'm starting this one!! 'Nite!! 😴

More time spent in state parks today, but I did get enough reading time to finish this one! I really enjoyed it, especially the small town setting and the way the landscape was such an important part of the story.

Not much time for reading today, because we decided that we needed some exercise to counter the holiday excess. Here's a picture of one of the beautiful SC State Parks we stopped at today! More reading planned for tomorrow!!!

A quick (one day) entertaining read about bodies found and mysteries solved. Takes place in rural PA and the author does a good job of matching sparse prose to a somewhat stark landscape. I would certainly try another by this author. #crime #mystery #fiction #debutnovel #booksandbrews

Alrighty then! I like Bouman's prose: sparse yet descriptive, blunt and swift moving. Enjoying it so far!

Starting this tonight. I've seen several of you Littens discussing Bouman's latest, but I'm a tad OCD so I have to start with the first one. 🤓

I have way too many library books checked out!

So far I am loving this!!! And that is as eloquent as I get at 11pm post-holiday weekend.
