This was a clunky, misogynistic read throughout! Each story with women got worse and worse. Rape, harpies and shrews. Bitter, angry man. Don‘t recommend this at all!

Angry, Alone and Anxious.

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Bailing at 53%. There are some interesting ideas in here, but for me they‘re greatly overshadowed by all the misogyny, and Ellison also just comes across as a major asshole. 🙅🏽‍♀️

I‘ve been wanting to get through this one for awhile now. It is horrible and amazing.

No doubt, Ellison is a good storyteller. His title story, set in the belly of a malign AI megacomputer, is great. But woof. It is difficult to separate the author from the stories in this collection. He introduces each and for the most part does himself no favors. But I don‘t want to dwell on his petty arrogance. Though a good half of these are full of sexism that make me never want to read another straight man, several are decent horror tales.

Ellison is an acquired taste, no real grey area, either you love him or hate him. His images can be raw, brutish even ugly, his language coarse and guttural, but his stories always deliver a punch. 4 💥💥💥💥 out of 5

Finding these kinds of short stories makes me want to read the genre so much more. The last proper AI related story I read was Do Androids Dream.

Loved the title story, rest of the collection was mostly so-so. I enjoyed Deathbird Stories a great deal more.
