I saw @Kappadeemom reading this and, since it‘s my old stomping grounds, I requested it. And then somehow, put it off for a few months. Turns out it‘s a fascinating social and cultural history of South Florida. How it was first settled, and how it became a playground for the rich. The reality of today‘s income disparity there is ignored, though. Not on topic, I guess.

rubyslippersreads This makes me think of the Marx Brothers movie, “The Cocoanuts.” 😊 (edited) 5y

A little history from my former home county. It‘s about how the area was created out of swamps and became a playground for the early 20th century wealthy.

I lived in this area from ‘86-‘94 and loved it, mostly. But there is a huge wealth gap and a lot of prejudice, so that‘s hard.

I received this from #NetGalley but have put it off for long enough to find the audiobook on Hoopla. (My fav catch-up strategy.)
