The Man Who Played with Fire
The Man Who Played with Fire: Stieg Larsson's Lost Files and the Hunt for an Assassin | Jan Stocklassa
13 posts | 7 read | 9 to read
The author of the Millennium novels laid out the clues. Now a journalist is following them. When Stieg Larsson died, the author of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had been working on a true mystery that out-twisted his Millennium novels: the assassination on February 28, 1986, of Olof Palme, the Swedish prime minister. It was the first time in history that a head of state had been murdered without a clue who'd done it--and on a Stockholm street at point-blank range. Internationally known for his fictional far-right villains, Larsson was well acquainted with their real-life counterparts and documented extremist activities throughout the world. For years he'd been amassing evidence that linked their terrorist acts to what he called "one of the most astounding murder cases" he'd ever covered. Larsson's archive was forgotten until journalist Jan Stocklassa was given exclusive access to the author's secret project. In The Man Who Played with Fire, Stocklassa collects the pieces of Larsson's true-crime puzzle to follow the trail of intrigue, espionage, and conspiracy begun by one of the world's most famous thriller writers. Together they set out to solve a mystery that no one else could.

In 1986, Swedish PM Olof Palme was assassinated. A pre-dragon tattoo Stieg Larsson was obsessed with the case, which was not solved (since this book‘s publication, they have closed it). This follows Larsson‘s then the author‘s search to find the killer. Really interesting read, but some of the choices make it a low pick for me. Also, avoid the audio, which I sampled—it‘s super dry in a way the print is not.

LiteraryinPA What an interesting plot! 2y

#TBRPile Day 2 - I think this was an Amazon First Reads pick. True crime books are not usually my thing so this book may go unread for a while. Any one read it?

This was a wild and at times convoluted ride, I had moments of severe interest and loved where the story was going but other times I was like... I am confused can we hurry this up and get to the point... So it was an okay book.

When Bradley introduces the Chasers at the beginning of each show, Jenny is often described as being 'hot' or 'on fire'. (Anne, on the other hand, is 'cold' or 'frosty'!) #girlonfire #SeptemberSins @Cinfhen @squirrelbrain

Cinfhen You know your show trivia!!!!! 5y
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen lol! Considering it's on series link so I don't miss an episode, I would hope so! 🤣🤣🤣 It could probably be my Mastermind subject! 5y

Day 4 of #SeptemberSins means that it's Mark's turn! This was the first quote I saw this morning (currently 7:57 in Kefalonia) and fits perfectly for #youcantstopthebeat, or, as I sometimes sing, #youcantstopthebeast!

sarahs.thoughts.on.books My friends and I really enjoyed watching reruns of The Chase on TV when we were in London. Though our favorite might have been Tipping Point 5y

Did anybody know that Stieg Larsson was also attempting to figure out a real life murder before his untimely death? I didn‘t! Imagine my surprise when I was reading the August American Library Association‘s Library Journal issue and discovered this. I‘ve not read any of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, but I‘m highly intrigued...

Hooked_on_books I had no idea, but somehow it doesn‘t surprise me. I‘m glad you posted—I‘m totally stacking this! 5y
Ms_T This has just appeared as a Kindle First Reads for September and I‘m totally buying it! 5y
