pickIt‘s a hodgepodge of horror cliches put together into an enjoyable mix. If I was in a different mood, I probably wouldn‘t‘ve enjoyed it so much—Mira Grant‘s books are always a mixed bag for me. Her writing is of the “surface” variety (I don‘t know how else to describe it; too much abstraction, too little meat, maybe?) which I rarely care for. One of the reasons I‘m so surprised I liked this.

Another great (and short) listen from Mira Grant!! Wanted to listen to this stand alone before starting the FEED series👏🏻 Very creepy house is investigated by a team of teen mystery hunters. But once you enter Spindrift House, you can leave.
2nd book was an audiobook of a play🎭 Grampa‘s a big ol grump and 👵🏻 is just the most precious! But what kind of people ring their own door bell? & there is no spook! 👎🏻 zombie hand??
Hike is over. Now it‘s adult beverage, crochet, and #audiobook time.

pickI stumbled upon this audiobook today while looking for something to listen to while cooking vegan lasagna for my nephew's birthday.
The narrator was great. The story had a perfect pace and just enough mystery and creepiness to keep me entertained. Spindrift House is an excellent example of a haunted house and I couldn't help but think I'd love to stay the night there. 👻
Another #catsoflitsy moment - I‘m trying to do some #audiochores while listening to a #spookyread but it seems like Elliot would prefer I play with her instead of doing laundry (one of her fave games is zoom & spin in the laundry basket 😹). I‘ll indulge the cuteness for a few minutes, then get back to #audiocleaning 😄
so-soI really enjoyed the teen detective aspect of this. But the rest I felt was a little lackluster. It wasn‘t nearly as creepy as I was hoping for, and I think I know what was going on....I think? I‘m still not 100% and for some books that uncertainty works but with this particular one, for me, it doesn‘t. I felt the writing went in circles at times and could have benefitted from some more editing but overall it wasn‘t bad. But not my favorite.
pickI'm a huge Lovecraft fan, so I was already sold based on the cover. That being said it is a wonderful novella to get lost in. Took me a little to get invested into but once I did I devoured it. The author has a way of painting scenery through metaphors that is beautifully uniquely hers. The story about a scoobyesque gang that investigate the spindrift house for supernatural happenings and keeps you reading with certainty that it won't end well.
I did it again. I keep accidentally ordering signed and numbered editions for the library. My boss keeps approving the orders, though...
And I can't wait to find out if I'm the only person who is getting a VERY strong Scooby-Doo gang vibe off of this.
