This was interesting, but I wished it had more concrete advice and focused more on elementary schools.
All #teachersoflitsy I‘m looking for great books about student engagement. Any suggestions appreciated.

CoffeeK8 I also like this one, it‘s about engaging yourself in the right way to create engagement (if you get what I mean) 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf Thanks for all the recommendations @CoffeeK8 I have the first one you mentioned but haven‘t read it yet. Have to look into the others. I‘m hoping to find some on audio as that is my preferred way of reading nonfiction. 6y

myellenbee Lucky kitty, a bed on a bed, very soft. My cat has the same bed I'll have to try it on the couch. : ) 6y

From The Chronicle of Higher Education: conceptualizing poverty as a “kind of mental tax” that drains energy and attention away from creativity, reflection, innovation, and other higher-order activities. #TeachersofLitsy

JSW Yes! Because money is so tied to basic needs like housing, food, and clothing. #maslow 6y
LibrarianRyan 100% agree. 6y
RealBooks4ever Totally agree! 6y
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards This is why I was so pleased to learn my college has emergency grants for students who find themselves in need. 6y

Summer professional development, in preparation for my new job teaching high school at a high-poverty school in Florida. #TeachersofLitsy

JSW This looks good. 6y
CouronneDhiver You‘ll be amazing there, I‘m sure! Do you like it in Florida so far? 6y
BookishMarginalia @CouronneDhiver We‘re actually moving tomorrow. Our house renovation was finished today. I‘m excited AND scared. I find transitions difficult 6y

Readingismyescape Good luck. I find change both exciting and scary, but often well worth the effort. 6y
Debiw781 Where in Florida are you moving to? I work in a high poverty area of FL as a school social worker. 6y

Our current president obviously never learned any of the emotional responses that are supposed to be taught to children by their caregivers. Poverty (the subject of this book) wasn‘t the issue there. #EmotionalKeyboard #TeachersofLitsy

GlassAsDiamonds I find it fascinating that optimism is a taught skill. 😊 6y

As an educator, I found this book great! All educators should read it and understand it! Then, read Hillbilly Elergy😀
