Tokyo Ghoul, Volume 5
Tokyo Ghoul, Volume 5 | Sui Ishida
11 posts | 35 read | 4 to read
Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way except their craving for human flesh. Ken Kaneki is an ordinary college student until a violent encounter turns him into the first half-human half-ghoul hybrid. Trapped between two worlds, he must survive Ghoul turf wars, learn more about Ghoul society and master his new powers. Kaneki, Nishio, and Touka struggle to work together to rescue their human friend Kimi while Ghoul Investigator deaths skyrocket in Wards 9 through 12. When reinforcements are called in on both sides, the stakes are suddenly higher than ever."

Kankei once again finds himself with a difficult choice that puts him trapped between the human and Ghoul worlds. We get some insight about kajune, which is a special ability that Ghouls have, and we have some sections that go back in time to tell us how things got to where they are.

This one was a nice mix of fast-paced action and story. The graphics are getting more intense, too.

There's a few threads running through this that I'm pretty interested in seeing concluded. Why the heck are so many of the Doves so unappealing looking, sheesh. I like this new stitched up one, though.

We get a little back story of Riza in this volume I am really loving and enjoying reading this manga series too.

I still love the story line, but I swear some volumes are just so choppy and hard to follow. This one was not as streamlined as the others and I found myself wondering who was talking, what random speak bubbles actually meant, and what had actually happened.

The story with the gourmet was fantastic and the backstory for Rize was a nice addition.

This book continues the development of the Gourmet while also bringing some major character development to Nishiki and some minor development to Touka. We are also introduced to some new characters as well as learning some of Rize's backstory!

Loving this manga series so far. I'm interested to see the story unfold. The fight scenes can be hard to follow though.
