SpellboundReader I often download Kindle versions from Project Gutenberg. Sadly Amazon has removed a lot of the free public domain ebooks and now only offers versions that cost $1 or more. I guess that makes more sense if a reader wants an annotated version.
Wikisource.org via Wikipedia also has quite a few public domain ebooks available to either read online or download a .PDF version. 9mo

Visited the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz today— the bibliophile‘s Holy Grail! Home to four Gutenberg Bibles, and a fascinating demonstration about how Johannes Gutenberg invented the mechanical movable-type printing press that revolutionized the mass production of printed books.
