The Heiress of Winterwood
The Heiress of Winterwood | Sarah E. Ladd
6 posts | 7 read | 12 to read
Darbury, England, 1814 Amelia Barrett gave her word. Keeping it could cost her everything. Amelia Barrett, heiress to an estate nestled in the English moors, defies family expectations and promises to raise her dying friends baby. Shell risk everything to keep her wordeven to the point of proposing to the childs fathera sea captain shes never met. When the child vanishes with little more than an ominous ransom note hinting at her whereabouts, Amelia and Graham are driven to test the boundaries of their love for this little one. Amelias detailed plans would normally see her through any trial, but now, desperate and shaken, shes forced to examine her soul and face her one weakness: pride. Grahams strength and self-control have served him well and earned him much respect, but chasing perfection has kept him a prisoner of his own discipline. And away from the family he has sworn to love and protect. Both must learn to have faith and relinquish control so they can embrace the future ahead of them. My kind of book! [It] grabbed my attention from the first lines and I eagerly returned to its pages. Julie Klassen, Best-Selling, Award-Winning Author If you are a fan of Jane Austen and Jane Eyre, you will love Sarah E. Ladd's debut. USAToday.com

It's good luck to bring the forest indoors, to let it watch over you while you sleep. They bring me good dreams.

Oh I loved this. Unique premise with Amelia risking her name and fortune by promising to raise her dying friend‘s infant child, then proposing to the child‘s father in order to give the child the best life. There is a romance but it seems to take a backseat to the main conflict, which is totally fine with me. I feel like this author was definitely inspired by Jane Austen, so perhaps fans of Austen and inspirational historical fiction will enjoy.

“...trying not to stare at the captain, who was seated directly across from her. She was grateful that etiquette forbade her from speaking across the table during dinner. At least she would be able to avoid conversation for now.”

THEY COULDN‘T SPEAK ACROSS THE TABLE IN REGENCY ENGLAND? How did I not know this? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Or did I know it and just completely forget it?!?

I‘ve been craving some Regency-era historical fiction, and this cover and premise called out to me. #currentlyreading

Bringingupbooks @EmilyChristine, much the same here! I think I read one of her books around Christmas time and then binge read everything! I was living in a Regency-Sarah Ladd haze for a while 😂 7y
EmilyChristine @Bringingupbooks I read her and Kristi Ann Hunter's series at the same time. One after the other. Love those kinds of binges. 7y
