This book is about how our medical system trains doctors, often in free clinics, so those without medical insurance become the patients of learning doctors who have few resources & make human mistakes... but as minority groups, often with inferior healthcare infrastructure due to systemic racism are dying of COVID at alarming rates, it‘s⤵️

I read this super fast! I had a hard time putting it down! Even though this is labeled as a book about medicine, it is also a memoir of Dr. Rachel Pearson‘s journey to and time in medical school. She went to medical school in Galveston, Texas, and she presents the city as a microcosm of the medical field in the United States. She shares anecdotes of how her patients (most poor and uninsured) can‘t get the care they need under the current system.⬇️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @daniwithtea I‘ll agree with that too. This group always picks great books that I didn‘t know I needed to read... if you know what I mean. Great books, that usually either weren‘t on my radar, or were so far down my TBR list who knows if I‘d ever actually get to them. But they are always good, and last years group I‘ve recommended a few times and been reminded of a few times too as other things have come up...so they‘ve stuck with me. 6y
