Utterly delightful. Sally's imagination reminded me of my own as a child. It's probably my favorite Judy Blume so far! 🤩

Read as a replacement for #childrensclassicread2025 because I read Blubber earlier this year. Thanks for the suggestion @thebookhippie and @cbee! Love, love, love this book!

TheBookHippie It‘s my fav!!! I‘m so glad you loved it! 2mo

I‘ve been looking forward to this #authoramonth all year. This was a childhood fave. To read it as an adult and all the knowledge that comes with being an adult gave it an added slightly darker layer.

CBee SALLY!!! My favorite Judy Blume 💚 @TheBookHippie another Sally fan!! 2mo
TheBookHippie I reread it every year. ♥️ 2mo

Sace @TheBookHippie I always loved the grandma. As a child I don‘t think I realized the grief she must have been suffering but she never let the children see it. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Sace I agree. Mine was the same. 2mo

I read this over and over again as a kid (and still have my battered and yellowed copy). I saw myself in Sally; I loved her imagination and her way of looking at the world. Judy Blume is the queen of taking tough issues and making them accessible for younger readers. I think I read that this is her most autobiographical novel ♥️ #adventrecommends @emilyrose_x

CBee @TheBookHippie never realized until today that this book is much beloved by you as well ♥️♥️ 3y
TheBookHippie @CBee my grandma and me ♥️♥️♥️. 3y
CBee @TheBookHippie oh, that‘s the best ♥️♥️ 3y

TheBookHippie @CBee It was incredibly hard to find a book where the mom wasn't well a mom and this book soothed me as it was my Bubbe, Grandma that saved me. My dads mum thought not my moms mother. My mother was much worse than portrayed here but it was enough. 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 3y
CBee @TheBookHippie that‘s beautiful ♥️ I‘m so glad you had an amazing grandma and that you shared this book together. 3y
TheBookHippie @CBee I was already a teenager but it still hit ♥️ I should find it it‘s so beat up it‘s barely together. 3y
TheBookHippie @CBee I have it on my kindle now. 3y
CBee @TheBookHippie I have mine! It‘s falling apart ♥️ 3y
dabbe One of my childhood faves, too. My favorite of hers was IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. I read it the summer my parents got divorced, and it got me through it. Then came FOREVER in 6th grade. My friend Leslie had all the “sex“ parts highlighted in yellow and flagged, and we passed it around during class. Mr. Gaio never knew, bless his heart! 3y

CBee @dabbe I don‘t think I read that one! I DID read Forever though - I remember being slightly scandalized 😂😂 3y
Sparklemn I've always wondered if anyone else remembered this book. I loved it so much as a child. And was haunted by it, too. Might need to purchase! (edited) 3y
CBee @Sparklemn we have a decent group of Sally fans ♥️ I pulled out my battered copy just a couple of days ago to read some of it to my husband. I still remember so much about it and it‘s been a LONG time. 3y

We always love a Judy Blume moment on my book podcast — and today‘s Judy moment is especially lovely because 1.) we‘re discussing the author‘s most autobiographical novel and 2.) we have author Hena Khan on the show! Listen at the link in my bio.

BookBabe Nice! I‘ve read many of her books but never this one. I met her a few years back at her book signing—she was lovely! 3y
ahoffkosik @BookBabe I‘d love to meet her someday! 3y

Y‘all know the feeling - when you are searching through books and come across one that you‘ve held on to since childhood? I LOVE that feeling. Judy Blume is my girl - she and Beverly Cleary were on heavy rotation when I was a kid. But THIS book is the one I read over and over again. It‘s obviously well loved ❤️❤️❤️

KristinaRay This is one of my favorites by her too! When I was a kid I read everything by her and Beverly Cleary that I could find. 7y
CBee @KristinaRay ME TOO! Ramona was my girl. 7y

#funfridayphoto Growing up as a kid in the 70s - I worshipped at the altar of Judy Blume. I read, re-read and re-read everything she wrote. This was my favorite though and this was the edition I had.
