My first book read on my new eReader! GGM is the 2nd in the Cash Blackbear series. Rendon‘s priority is character in this novel. She introduces a new one and provides backstory and development for the MC and her mentor. A classmate and other young women are disappearing and Cash is having dreams again. She is also juggling school, work and pool, unable to see her potential. One thing she has always understood; she is a survivor. 3+/5 ⭐️

While I liked Girl Gone Missing, there was far too much of Cash‘s everyday problems, beer drinking, and angst and far too little of the mystery surrounding the missing girl. The ending and the reveal of the villain felt rushed because there wasn‘t enough build up to either.

Today is my husband‘s and my 39th anniversary. We had such a nice day. We didn‘t do anything big, but we went for a nice drive to Magnolia Springs to a restaurant I‘d always wanted to try. I walked later in the evening and listened to more of Girl Gone Missing. I feel like I‘m hearing more about the number of beers Cash drinks daily than I am about the missing girls. #audiowalk

This is my new walking book, but I don‘t know if I can continue with it. I love Cash Blackbear, but I‘m not sure I can handle her bleak outlook on life right now. We‘ll see. #audiowalk

All my favorites but... the juxtaposition of the main character's street smarts but naivety... rang false to me.

The second half of this is so much stronger than the first half. Not only does the plot start moving at a quicker pace but it‘s much more emotionally-charged, too.

📚 My May #BookSpin book for #MagnificentMay (and 3/3 overall)

Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏 Looks like something I‘d be interested in. 2y
janeycanuck @Andrew65 I think you could read as a stand-alone but there are some references to the first in the series so I‘d go in order if you pick them up! 2y
Andrew65 @janeycanuck Thanks, will check into the series. 2y

A continuation of the outstanding Cash Blackbear series, this book is more thriller than mystery, with a plot twist I did not see coming. The ending was not 100 percent satisfying, but it rings true to life where things aren‘t always tied up in bows. Cash Blackbear is a wonderful character and Rendon‘s writing continues to be honest and evocative. I think this is my new favorite crime series.

I have a stack of books on the go, but this, the second in the Cash Blackbear series, has been calling to me. And it is a page turner to be sure.

This was a tougher, but better read than the first in the series. Note CW for attempted r*pe.

The artwork above is from the Grand Valley State University Contemporary Anishinaabe Artists
exhibit at the Performing Arts Center Gallery, Allendale Campus.

Marcie Rendon is an enrolled member of the White Earth Anishinabe Nation, hence pic. Glorious, isn‘t it?

IuliaC Great artwork! 2y

1. Robert Burns: “The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft a-gley.”

I trim it down to “gang aft a-gley”, like a true Scot, but probably not. 🤨

2. “Yayo, yayo, Mula-la, Yayo…Bitch better have my money…”

Only put in “kibble” for money. 🤨

It doesn‘t happen often, that an author‘s second book is even better than the first book, but such is the case with this second Cash Blackbear novel. She is a force to be reckoned with and yet naive to the ways of the world outside of her small town. However, no one gets the better of her, for long. I just love her honesty, integrity, vulnerability, and fierceness. I can‘t wait for the third book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day 10 of #20series20days is the Cash Blackbear mysteries set in Minnesota & North Dakota in the 1970s. It‘s another that I hope will have more than just the two books published so far. The resolution of the respective crimes seemed a bit rushed in both books, but the MC is very compelling, and I want to know more of her story. You could probably read this on its own, but you would miss some of the background and texture. #Top20series

Andrew65 An interesting series. 4y

Was a book club pick. We did a zoom meeting for it. It was an alright book. I read it right after my mom died and I mostly tried to read it so I could attend the zoom meeting because I feel so cut off from everyone and everything. I‘d made chocolate banana brownies to see how they would be and Leo was curious.

LauraJ So, how were they? 5y
allureofbeauty @LauraJ not as good as I‘d hoped. I think I did too much banana. If I‘d done less it would have been better. 5y

Second in a series featuring the tough, smart, independent, and lonely Cash Blackbear. A must read if you are interested in the forced removal of Indigenous children from their families or MMIW. (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women). Although this story focuses on SPOILER ALERT sex trafficking of all women.

This is the second book in this series, so I may have needed to read the first one. Cash is a Native American who seems to have a sixth sense or something- in this book a couple of girls are kidnapped and she uses that sense to rescue them. Good but I‘m not sure I‘d read another. #ReadingUSA2019 #NorthDakota (this would also work for Minnesota as they go back and forth)

squirrelbrain I forget which states I‘ve read and which I haven‘t.... I have a list at home so I‘ll have to take a pic of it to remind myself! 😁 5y
