This bookstore finally reopened today after having to close March 2020. You can bet son (pictured) and I were there! Even though neither of us “need” more books 😂

They couldn‘t reopen when most shops did, because it‘s under the umbrella of the local Senior Center, and also the Department of Aging, which finally gave them the green light to open again. For now open just 3 days a week but we‘ll take it! Picture of my haul to follow!

I‘m sad this used bookstore run by volunteers still hasn‘t reopened since March. They can‘t because they‘re affiliated with the local senior center & Department of Aging won‘t let them. I get email updates from them & one thing they always say is please don‘t leave donations there & there‘s signs too. Ironically all these left in front of the shop (yes I peeked) were Christian fic & non-fic. I was just by there for my first ever haircut of 2020.

Bookzombie Why can't people read signs?! So frustrating. I haven't had a haircut since about this time last year, lol. 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Bookzombie Right?! It just makes more work for the bookstore. I had an appointment for March but they canceled it because of being shut down. So I was hacking away at my hair until now 😂. Feel a lot better with a “real” cut. 4y

(See my previous post for more info.) stopped at the used bookstore before they close indefinitely b/c of Coronavirus, to stock up. don‘t need more books but wanted to support them!

A good mix of fiction (a few I can use for my current challenges) and non-fiction. A couple ARCs tossed in. And was glad to see the pocket poets editions (top), I have a small collection of those.

And, my 2 college kids‘ lives are a bit disrupted now! Crazy times.

ValerieAndBooks May everyone stay healthy 💖!! 5y
BarbaraBB I am glad you went and bought the books. You take care too! 5y

This was in an email I got 😭. Hope they‘ll reopen soon! Our local senior center (I‘m not old enough for it, despite what my kids might think) runs on a volunteer basis 2 good used bookstores. None of them are known to have Coronavirus, but the volunteers‘ ages make them at risk. Understandable but sad.

I have so many books in my TBR because of their deals! Trying to decide if I should go there and buy some books as if it‘s TP & hand sanitizer.

LiteraryinPA This is sad but a smart move. I think we‘re going to be seeing a lot more of that shortly. 5y
Graciouswarriorprincess One of my local independent bookstores has cancelled all the events for the next week. Hopefully this isn‘t going to be a trend but I am afraid it may be. 😢 5y
Hooked_on_books Yes, go stock up on books! Hopefully doing so will help them to reopen in the future. 5y

ValerieAndBooks @LiteraryinLititz and I just realized the virus may also effect whether libraries stay open or not 😱 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Graciouswarriorprincess I am hoping along with you! It may help us read/re-read what we have at home but won‘t help the book industry and also possibly libraries. 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Hooked_on_books I‘ll try 🤞! It just so happens tomorrow and Friday I have a lot to do, though. 5y
cathipink My library has cancelled all activities - I have a feeling the library itself may not be too far behind (although it is a sanctuary for many who have nowhere else to go). My bff told me I should buy at least 40 books 😉 so I'm off to pick up some things before spring break starts tomorrow. 5y
RaimeyGallant Incredibly sad. :( But I get it. 5y
ValerieAndBooks @cathipink I just got an email from our library system announcing cancellation of all activities 😢. Hopefully you managed to get enough to read one way or another 🤞📚 5y
ValerieAndBooks @RaimeyGallant I hope it‘ll be a short closure for their sake 🤞 5y

Oh no 🙈! Dropped off some books today at the used bookstore and discovered all history and biographies are 50% off in September. My kryptonite. I‘ll have to try to stay away all month. But used bookstores don‘t often have women‘s history so maybe if I tell myself that‘s only what I‘ll buy if I weaken and go back?!

Pleased to find Jefferson and Monticello, as we just visited there!

The #nyrb fiction (top) was at their regular price ($4) 😊.

LeahBergen What a great haul. 👍🏻 5y

In case you missed it!! @TimSpalding recently had a post that brought this to my attention. You can now tag bookstores on #Litsy! If a search doesn‘t come up via Litsy for the bookstore you want, you can add it as a venue on LibraryThing.

This is where I got my haul this morning! They accept book donations and all sales benefit the local senior center. They run different price specials each month.

JanuarieTimewalker13 Wow! That‘s a great bookstore!! And that‘s nice that they can be tagged! 6y
ValerieAndBooks @JanuarieTimewalker13 it is, to both! Libraries can now be tagged as well. 6y
