A simple DNA test and its results change everything Dani Shapiro believed she knew about her life. A beautiful, traumatic journey.

Amazing book. I am adopted and have struggled all my life with many of the questions Dani grapples with when, as a result of a DNA test she takes for fun, she discovers in her 50‘s that she is not the biological offspring of the father who had raised her. I felt such a profound connection to this book.
Loved this DNA memoir / mystery book. Shapiro gets the shock of a lifetime, and spends the book sorting out information and feelings. We are all about genealogy at our house, so this was right up my alley. And, yes, our family had a DNA surprise a few years ago, so I connected even more to Shapiro‘s experience because of it.

I like this sweet picture of the author and her father. The Kindle edition has a different one—with the dress. But this tugs at my daughter heartstrings. Reading with #NonfictionNerds on GR.
I discovered Dani Shapiro in 2019 and am looking forward to reading more from her this year!
