January 1910. A journalist has been killed in a suspicious blaze. Everything points to a group of suffragettes, but the apparent culprit insists she is innocent. When Lady Hardcastle receives a letter from a suffragette requesting her urgent help, the retired spy turned sleuth knows only she stands between an accused young woman and the gallows. Evidence at the scene makes Lizzie Worrel's innocence difficult to believe, and with the police treating it as an open-and-shut case of arson, Lady Hardcastle faces a barrage of resistance as she tries to dig out the truth. With her trusted maid and confidante, the formidable Flo, Lady Hardcastle sets off in pursuit of the truth as time runs out for the accused suffragette. Was she set up? And if so, is the real culprit a traitor to the cause--or part of a darker conspiracy?

A truly lovely way to spend a rainy Sunday.
Highlights of this particular Lady Hardcastle mystery:
Tiny Welsh maid with martial arts training wiping the floor with an anti-suffragist: chef's kiss.
The Cotham Road and Court Sampson Inn passages were deliciously mischievous. 1/3

Robotswithpersonality 2/3 Struck particularly in this volume the number of times you see women enjoying good food. Might just be a personal history thing, but it's still encouraging to read, and adds to the 'cozy' of the cozy mystery.
The number of 'creative alternatives' 😏 provided for the name The Men's/Women's League of Opposing Suffragists was delightful.
Finally meeting Mrs. Sunderland! Hope to see more of her in future books in the series. 10mo

Another series I adore! This is a fun historical murder mystery featuring a lady and her maid, both former spies. I get a kick out of everyone, and this book was no different! I couldn‘t put it down.
