#ShowSomeLove Day 3: These are among the books I read this year and can easily fit into: #FaveBookByABlackAuthor - particularly the tagged book. My review is forthcoming!

BarbaraBB The tagged one I read ages ago but will never forget. 4y
TheKidUpstairs I've never read anything by Walker beyond The Color Purple. This one sounds interesting! 4y

“I have the uncanny feeling that, just at the end of my life, I am beginning to reinhabit completely the body I long ago left.”

Such a sad quote in The Secret of #Joy, a heartbreaking work about female genital mutilation.

Kalalalatja That sounds like a tough read! 7y
BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja It was. It is such a horrible subject. 7y

Did you know that Tori Amos credits this book as one of the inspirations for Cornflake Girl? Seems like an appropriate reread right now.

Currently reading & loving. Coming back to Alice Walker after a few years feels so comfortable, so familiar, like submerging in a warm bath (if that bath was actually filled of disjointed snippets of first person POV that you have to float and compare and juggle as you piece together the timeline, setting, and characters of this heartwrenching story). In short, I adore it.

#WWW and #Recommendsday - I love Alice Walker and love this lesser read book of hers. This book is about a woman who moves to the US from Africa and how she deals with her trauma, grief and anger after experiencing FGM (female genital mutilation) when she was younger. It certainly isn't the easiest thing to read about but it is written so well and is a powerful story. Just look at that dedication 🙌🏽🙌🏽

KVanRead I loved this book so much. Excellent pick —everyone should read it.❤️ 8y
Yamich49 @KVanRead Right?!? 🙌🏽 8y
