The Mirror King
The Mirror King | Jodi Meadows
In this stunning conclusion to The Orphan Queen, Jodi Meadows follows Wilhelmina’s breathtaking and brave journey from orphaned criminal on the streets to magic-wielding queen. This epic fantasy duology is perfect for fans of Graceling by Kristin Cashore, The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.Princess Wilhelmina is ready for her crown, but declaring herself queen means war. Her magic is uncontrollable and now there’s a living boy made of wraith—destructive and deadly, and willing to do anything for her.Caught between what she wants and what is right, Wilhelmina realizes the throne might not even matter. Everyone thought the wraith was years off, but already it’s destroying Indigo Kingdom villages. Princess Wilhelmina’s ability might be just the thing to help reclaim her kingdom—or ruin it forever.

I really liked the conclusion to this series. I don‘t know why I felt like this book was going to flop going into it, maybe because I don‘t know anyone else who has read it, but thank goodness that didn‘t happen. Also, that ending hit me right in the feels. Nothing else needs to be said.

(E-book, Overdrive) Better written than it‘s predecessor, though events follow on immediately from the cliffhanger of ‘Orphan Queen‘. But it‘s not addressing the elephant in the room: when you have an agent of the enemy in your own camp, why not question him and get answers to fight the impending war. Other than that, it‘s got me hooked at the moment.

The companion book to "The Orphan Queen" ?? this picks right off, literally, where the last one ended aka cliffhanger. It's longer that the first one and I think more well done than the first. Yes, there are still the YA fantasy tropes that are all too common; but I took the story for itself and I enjoyed it. I wanted to punch some characters in the face but that's part of the fun.

Cybils public nominations started this weekend and (to an outsider) the totals look pretty anemic for several days into nominations. I encourage anyone who has an interest in children's and young adult lit to check out the award and nominate your favorite titles from the year. The Mirror King was my nomination in YA Speculative Fiction. Link here: http://www.cybils.com/2016/10/and-go-cybils-nominations-are-open.html #Cybils

I liked this sequel. The ending felt a little bit rushed but overall it was enjoyable.

A good conclusion to the duology! I loved seeing the character development of Wilhelmina and Tobiah, and seeing their relationship develop. Also seeing them come into their respective crowns. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
