How far will a father go to protect his 21 year old son from a mentally unstable woman who brutally killed her newborn baby ten years ago? I didn't like it and I will never recommend it. The author clearly wanted the reader to pity the girl. To a degree, I did, but not for killing her baby. I hated the ending because it made the overprotective father the villain.
Back from our travels and only plans are to unpack and read.
It‘s a pick because I can‘t stop thinking about it! So many moral dilemmas in this. So many times I just wanted to say NO!! I found Pete was not a likeable parent....
Read two books by this author now and she‘s great!
After discussing whether they think their son is gay, this is the reason why they don‘t want him to be - because they‘d have no grandchildren.....what a selfish view. Grandchildren are not a parents right.
My son bought this book last spring when his grad class was having a fundraiser at the bookstore. #noteworthynovember #family

I have some mixed feelings about this book. I want to start off by saying that I think the writing was really very good. I liked that the time was so unreliable in some ways as it bounced back and forth to different stories at different times. I strongly didn‘t like the characters and some of the premise was just a little bit hard to digest. Overall, I thought this was good and fans of The dinner by Herman Koch should definitely read this one!
Laura Stern, having been found not guilty of killing her baby behind a library after a secret pregnancy when she was a young teen, will come back to town over a decade later and remain #theunforgiven. Told by her parents best friend, the neighbor, whose son becomes infatuated with Laura, this quickly becomes suspenseful and every suburban parent‘s worst nightmare. Characterization and writing make this book a winner. #rocktober
Wow. Sometimes you read a book and you almost have to put it down because the things its drawing out of you are almost too much... sadness, regret, sometimes desire even. This suburban tale is told from the point of view of a 50 something Dr.Pete, and tells of all the decisions he makes as a parent, a husband, as a best friend. He just doesn't see the destruction down the road from some of these decisions. Very engrossing. Very good.
Started this today and yikes!!!!! Tragedy in suburbia. Hardworking, successful people who want nothing but to give their kids the best, only to have their kids be crazy. Really good so far.
I'm really excited to meet Lauren Grodstein today. My very first eBook was Friend of the Family and I loved it. She has such an interesting voice and I'm looking forward to reading Out Short History.
